Tomljanović became an Australian citizen in January 2018. She was in a relationship with Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios from 2017 to 2018. From 2019 till 2022, she dated Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini. Tomljanovic is close friends with fellow player Félix Auger-Aliassime, who is dating her cousin. Tomljanović was born in Zagreb to Croatian father Ratko Tomljanović who played handball professionally (winner of the 1992 and 1993 handball European Cup) and Bosnian mother Emina. Her elder sister Hana played tennis for the University of Virginia. She began playing tennis at the age of six and moved to Florida for training when she was 13. She is coached by Fernando Martínez and Rene Gomez. She is also a fan of basketball. Ajla Tomljanovic is a Croatian born Australian tennis player that is currently ranked number 46 in the women tennis singles rankings. Now 26 years old, Tomljanovic was born on 7th May 1993 to her father Ratko and mother Emina in Zagreb, Croatia. She has an elder sister Hana, who introduced her to tennis at age 7. Hana herself played tennis at the University of Virginia. Her father Ratko, was part of the handball teams that won the European cups in 1992 and 1993 for Croatia. When she was 13, Tomljanovic moved to Florida to be able to train better and prepare professionally for the sport. The 1.80 m tall (5’7) tennis player chose to represent her Australia over her birth country of Croatia because she felt she could get more opportunities to grow and further her career in Australia. She obtained Australian residency in 2014 and started representing her country that same year. She currently lives in Brisbane, Australia where she trains for her tennis matches. Tomljanovic turned pro in the year 2009. She has found her success mainly in the ITF tours. She has four singles titles and three doubles titles on the women’s ITF circuits.
